We are hiring an Accounting Trainee (Apprenticeship)

Position: Accounting Trainee (Apprenticeship)

Do you want to work for an accountancy practice with a difference?

CHA is an accountancy practice run by parents for parents.  Our mission is to make the accounting process as simple and stress free as possible, so our clients can spend more time doing the things they love with the people they love.

Being a digital firm, using online software only (no paper here!) we are not your traditional accountancy firm.  We partner with Xero, Receipt Bank and other software companies to take the headache away from our clients and help them build the business of their dreams.

We do more than just the compliance side, working with clients to advise them and guide them through the business world to help them achieve their goals.

We have experienced fantastic growth over the last few months and we wish to give a new team member a unique and exciting opportunity.

If you are keen to learn accountancy – both the compliance and advisory aspects, then we have the opportunity for you!  We are offering a Level 3 AAT Accountancy Apprenticeship between 18-21 months in association with Chelmsford College.

Initially you would be looking after the admin duties and general bookkeeping, but as you progress in your training you will also be able to assist with VAT, Payroll, CIS, tax returns and more.

What CHA can offer you:

  • You will be an integral part of a fun, hardworking team, based at our offices in a stunning location, and get to enjoy many social events including lunches, evenings out and Xero events
  • 20 days holiday (plus bank holidays)
  • 1 additional day holiday for each year of service up to a maximum 5 additional days
  • A workplace auto enrollment pension
  • You will be given training with Xero, Receipt Bank and other cloud apps, and will complete the Xero Certification Program
  • You will gain a full AAT Level 3 Qualification with our help and support, and the possibility of moving forward within our company
  • You will be working 5 days per week, Monday – Friday 9am to 5pm, with day release 1 day per week (term time) to Chelmsford College
  • You will be paid £4.25 per hour

Key Tasks/Responsibilities – inclusive of, but not limited to:

  • Answering the telephone and talking to clients
  • Data entry
  • General administrative duties
  • Scanning & electronic filing
  • Taking the post to the Post Office on occasion
  • General bookkeeping for a variety of clients using Xero and Receipt Bank
  • Preparing CSV files for statement imports
  • Dealing with HMRC and Companies House
  • Set up and maintenance of client files
  • Assist with new client onboarding including AML procedures
  • Company Secretarial duties including Confirmation Statements

Required Skills/Experience:

We are looking for someone who is keen to learn accountancy within

our company. You will be able to learn a very broad spectrum of the industry.  Common sense is crucial.  You will meet and greet clients, so you must be approachable and have a good telephone manner and be able to keep calm with some of our more challenging clients (although this is rare). The role will be very hands on, so it is important that you can work in a small team and accommodate different personalities. You should also be able to work independently.  You must be good at taking instructions and thinking outside the box.
